Healing Arts

There are many paths to healing. Visual arts enhance patient care, relieve stress and increase employee satisfaction. In addition, research shows art therapy reduces the need for pain medications, increases treatment compliance and shortens hospital stays. Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital has a robust Healing Arts Program, featuring nearly 600 pieces of artwork by Central Coast artists.

More than 400 Central Coast artists were invited to submit samples of their work and concepts for consideration; 123 of these artists were selected to provide art for the new Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Ultimately, more than 1,200 pieces will be acquired for the system-wide program, including the Goleta Valley and Santa Ynez Valley campuses. A wide variety of media will be represented, including sculpture, two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks, mixed-media art, glass, mosaics, fabric, and photography.

Take a look at 45 pieces that were especially commissioned for The Landmark Collection in the new Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
