Volunteer at Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital
A Tradition of Caring
Santa Ynez Valley residents saw the need to have their own community hospital in 1959. A concerned group of these citizens organized themselves in 1962 forming the Hospital Auxiliary Charter Members.
These 68 Charter Members, community leaders and physicians made plans and worked tirelessly raising funds for a new hospital. They purchased land on Alamo Pintado Road in Solvang, hired an architect and later a contractor, and held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Santa Ynez Valley Hospital on January 31, 1964.
The Hospital Auxiliary has worked tirelessly since then committing more than 15,000 volunteer hours each year to the hospital. Now is the perfect time to join this dedicated group of volunteers.
- Your time, skills, smile and compassion make a difference in people’s lives.
- Volunteering enables you to meet new people and learn new skills.
- Most people volunteer to be helpful, but also find the experience to be rewarding and inspirational.
- Volunteering at Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital is a wonderful way to support your community.
Where Your Help is Needed?
Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital Auxiliary volunteers provide support to patients, families, visitors and staff. We all have busy lives; that’s why schedules are coordinated in advance to make volunteering easy. Volunteers serve in many areas, including:
- Emergency Department
- Front Lobby
- Auxiliary Van
- Surgical Department
- Pet Therapy
- “New to You” Thrift Shop
What Volunteers Are Needed?
Men and women of all ages are needed to volunteer their time and talent in different areas of the hospital. Dedication and a desire to help others is all we ask. Whether you are retired, currently employed or in school, your skills could make a significant difference.
Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital also welcomes Junior Volunteers who are at least 17 years of age. This is a great way for a young person interested in entering a medical field to gain knowledge and experience.
