The Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital Foundation (SYVCHF) is pleased to announce that applications for the 2025 healthcare scholarships are now being accepted through Friday, March 7, 2025. Each year, SYVCHF awards scholarships to support Santa Ynez Valley residents, including high school graduating seniors and continuing college students, who are pursuing careers in a health or medical-related field.
These scholarships help offset the rising costs of higher education. Thanks to generous community donations, named scholarships include the Ann Bertero Scholarship Fund, Ken and Lloyd Mills Family Scholarship Fund, Auxiliary Honorary Scholarship Fund, Nagler Family Scholarship Fund, and the newly added Gainey Foundation Scholarship Fund, Lorraine Brem Scholarship Fund and Shepherd Family Scholarship Fund.
In 2024, SYVCHF awarded a total of $62,000 in scholarships to 16 deserving students.
SYVCHF Scholarship Eligibility
To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Reside in the Santa Ynez Valley.
- Plan to enter a health or medical-related field.
- Provide a letter of acceptance to an accredited college or university.
- Submit a one-page, typed essay outlining academic and professional goals, including intended future residence and workplace after graduation.
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA (see application form for complete details).
Previous scholarship recipients are eligible and encouraged to reapply. Applications received after March 7, 2025, will not be considered. Scholarship winners will be notified in April. The scholarship application form and complete instructions can be found at cottagehealth.org/syvchf.
New SYVCHF Scholarship Funds
In 2024, SYVCHF established three new scholarship funds: the Lorraine Brem Scholarship Fund, the Shepherd Family Scholarship Fund, and the Gainey Foundation Scholarship Fund. These funds provide additional support for Santa Ynez Valley residents who are enrolled in or have completed two or more years of healthcare education at an accredited college or university.
Community support plays a crucial role in advancing a strong local healthcare workforce. Contributions from residents, organizations, and grateful patients help sustain these scholarship programs.
