Kyle McKittrick
Kyle has always been incredibly athletic, and he played all the sports growing up. Several years ago, however, he was in a serious motorcycle accident that jeopardized these passions. He was rushed to the emergency department at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where our specialized team worked quickly to stabilize him and save his life.
As the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the region, our experts can handle nearly every type of traumatic injury that comes through our doors.
When every second counts, being able to get rapid treatment from Cottage emergency, trauma and critical care services saves lives. This exceptional level of care is made possible by generous support from caring community members like you.
After Kyle’s initial lifesaving care, he faced a significant and complex journey toward recovery. Thankfully, all of his treatment has been coordinated within the continuum of care Cottage Health provides, close to home. With the help of his dedicated care team at Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital (CRH), Kyle has reclaimed his passion for sports and learned to navigate life in a wheelchair.
“The entire Cottage crew was there for me every step of the way. Everybody was on Team Kyle.”
– Kyle McKittrick
Today, Kyle visits CRH every week to inspire other patients going through their recovery journeys. He also serves as the rugby coach for the annual Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp sponsored by the Foundation for Cottage Rehabilitation and Goleta Valley Cottage Hospitals. He is even training to be part of Team USA’s rugby team at the 2028 Paralympics.
Cottage’s emergency, trauma and critical care services are vital resources for our community. Your support helps secure the future of lifesaving care in Santa Barbara so that we can continue serving patients like Kyle.
