She’s the reason your gift today is so important.

Cottage doctors have saved her life more than once. Gifts to Cottage Children’s Medical Center (CCMC) from generous donors like you have provided our medical professionals the tools they need to provide exceptional care for our youngest patients, like Bella.

Will you make a donation today, for Bella and other Central Coast children like her, who depend on having a world-class hospital close to home?

May I have a moment of your time to share more of Bella’s story? It’s hard to believe that a little girl, just seven years old, could have gone through so much in such a short time!

It started the day she was born. She was premature, born with internal bleeding in her brain. She spent her first weeks of life in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Her mom, Marisol, remembers being terrified that she might never bring Bella home from the hospital.

Bella was diagnosed with a rare bleeding disorder.

But she pulled through, with the help of Cottage’s medical and nursing staff.

Today, Bella is an energetic, happy little girl. She loves painting and drawing. She wants to be an artist when she grows up.

Although she is doing well now, she still has a life-threatening condition. With any wound, there’s a risk that she’ll have uncontrolled bleeding. If that happens, she needs emergency medical care ... and she needs it close by and fast.

And not just any medical care. She needs the kind of specialized care that only a state-of-the-art hospital, one that can manage complex traumas, can provide.

She needs a hospital like Cottage Children’s Medical Center—the only hospital between Los Angeles and San Jose with a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.

Cottage is a not-for-profit, community hospital. We depend on your thoughtful giving to bring outstanding medical care to California’s Central Coast. We are able to offer the extraordinary level of specialized care to our smallest patients with the support of our community and your generosity and compassion for children who need our help.

These children depend on Cottage to make sure they can get the care they need, when they need it.

Please make a generous gift today, to help children like Bella, who struggle with life-threatening illnesses.

Bella’s experience as a newborn wasn’t the only time the expert medical staff at Cottage came to her rescue.

As a toddler, she had a serious fall and hit her head. Marisol knew right away that something was seriously wrong. Bella was lethargic, fading in and out of consciousness.

They rushed to the emergency room at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where doctors quickly discovered she had internal bleeding in her brain and needed emergency surgery.

If Bella had to travel to LA or San Jose for brain surgery, there’s a good chance she would not have survived. Thankfully, Cottage is equipped to handle the most complex emergencies. We were able to do the surgery right here—when Bella needed it.

Later, Bella’s mom, Marisol, shared that: “Waiting to see if she made it through surgery was the worst experience of my life. If Cottage wasn’t here, Bella wouldn’t be alive right now.

Cottage Children’s Medical Center was here for Bella that day because of the support of caring, compassionate donors just like you.

Today, Bella’s illness is being managed by the doctors here at Cottage. She has every chance of leading a full and
happy life.

With your financial support, we can be here for children like Bella when they need us.

Every gift to Cottage Children’s Medical Center supports the team of committed professionals who care for our
youngest patients.

Your support would mean the world to Bella’s family...and to all the children and their families up and down the Central Coast, struggling with complex medical conditions and life-threatening emergencies.
