Mission

Cottage Health Research Institute (CHRI) is an integral part of Cottage Health with a mission to provide expertise, consultation, education and administrative support for the translation of clinical and academic research and scholarly training for future physicians and other healthcare professionals.

About Us

From developing comprehensive care plans for low-birth weight infants to rehabilitating patients to walk again through new robotic technologies, CHRI supports more than 150 research projects annually to help discover new cures and better practices for healthcare of the future.

Our medical staff of more than 600 physicians includes specialists in all major clinical areas, many of whom conduct research and treat patients – the ideal formula for medical discovery and its translation into improved health and cures for the communities we serve.

CHRI fosters strong relationships for research collaborations between academic researchers, community health providers, policy makers, industry partners, local biotech companies, and private and public health organizations to advance technology and innovation through a combination of basic, clinical, translational and community-health research studies to prevent disease and improve patient outcomes.

In addition, our unique academic relationship with the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) strengthens our ability to further deliver on unique Bioengineering and Material Sciences technology opportunities that benefit patients within our community.

CHRI Contributions

  • Initiate, launch and oversee more than 150 funded and non-funded studies annually
  • Publish or present an annual average of 40 new peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, or podium presentations. View references, here.

2026 Collaborative Research Symposium Call for Abstracts

The Cottage Health Research Institute is now accepting abstracts for the 2026 Collaborative Research Symposium. The Symposium will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara.

The theme of the 2026 Symposium is Women’s Health and will discuss all aspects of care and outcomes impacting women. Abstracts are due to CHRI@sbch.org by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Carolee Lee, founder of WHAM (Women’s Health Access Matters), a nonprofit organization focused on increasing awareness of the unique health challenges women face.
