After growing up in Santa Barbara, Dr. Sacks earned his BA in History from Stanford University and his MD from UCSF, where he was elected Co-President of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He then completed his residency at the Harvard Brigham and Women's Hospital/Boston Children's Hospital Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. His dedication to education has earned him numerous teaching awards, including honors from the graduating residents at Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC), where he has also worked as an academic hospitalist since 2014.

At VCMC, Dr. Sacks has co-directed the inpatient medicine didactic series, founded the Health Equity Grand Rounds series, and held multiple leadership roles, including Chief of the Medical Staff. He joined the SBCH IM Residency faculty in 2025 as Director of Medical Education.

Dr. Sacks has a special interest in the practice and teaching of social medicine. For over a decade, he served as Founding Co-Director and board member of EqualHealth, an organization dedicated to building critical consciousness and collection action in the pursuit of health equity. For years, he has taught in EqualHealth's annual Social Medicine Course in Haiti, and he also directed and taught in faculty development programs for clinicians from the Global South, including a fellowship program for medical educators and a "Teach the Teacher" program in Haiti, for a number of years.

Outside of work, Dr. Sacks enjoys chasing his young children around, live music, and enjoying the outdoors, including hiking and rock climbing.
