The hospital’s 20-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) offers 10 dedicated beds for its Neuro ICU. Patients are co-managed by Neuro-Intensivists and Critical Care physicians who provide 24/7 coverage.

The Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital has been honored with the Silver-Level Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).

Neurohospitalist and neurointensivist physicians are neurologists with additional training who specialize in the care of hospitalized patients with acute or complex neurological conditions.

The neurohospitalists and neurointensivists at the Cottage Neuroscience Institute manage complex neurological conditions, assist in coordinating care, and ensure the best possible patient outcomes through evidence-based guidelines.
