Our coordinated team of pulmonary hypertension healthcare professionals who are experts in all forms of PH, including pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), is providing patients with a new path that allows them to breath more easily and get back to the life and activities they love.

Norma Pew, Santa Maria

Norma Pew - Cottage Pulmonary Hypertension Care Center Patient

Norma first noticed she was short of breath as she walked to work from the bus in the spring of 2008, and as the year progressed, it only got worse.

When she struggled to get up one flight of stairs on a family cruise, she knew she needed help.

Dr. Jeffrey Sager, director and founder of Cottage Pulmonary Hypertension Center, pinpointed the problem and provided solutions. She’s responding to the therapies he recommended, and with greater capacity for exercise, she has lost 70 pounds.

“Dr. Sager saved my life! He is an excellent doctor and now, friend.”

Ernestine DeSoto, Santa Barbara

Ernestine DeSoto - Cottage Pulmonary Hypertension Care Center Patient

When Ernestine DeSoto visits Cottage Pulmonary Hypertension Care Center, she knows the staff will consider the big picture of what she is dealing with medically and psychologically. “They’re treating the entire person, not just the actual set of lungs.”

At 80, she is dealing with a cascade of issues stemming from the fact she was born with a large hole in her heart. That includes pulmonary hypertension, which would make her feel like she had a gerbil spinning in her chest and made it difficult to breathe when she laid down. But Dr. Jeffrey Sager, the center’s founder and director, determined the right treatment so she could breathe more easily.

“He’s a lung god! So gentle, so compassionate, so genius, can’t say enough accolades.”
