  • 24/7 access to a specialty pharmacist
  • Support in multiple languages

What Is a Specialty Pharmacy?

Specialty medications are prescribed to treat chronic, complex or rare medical conditions. These medications often require:

  • Specialized handling or storage
  • Careful monitoring for side effects
  • Prior authorization from insurance
  • Ongoing clinical support

At Cottage Specialty Pharmacy, our clinical pharmacy specialists have expertise in managing specialty medications and the conditions they treat. We work closely with your healthcare team to coordinate your care, provide education and help you stay on track with treatment.

Getting Started

Once your provider sends us your specialty prescription, we'll guide you through every step of the process.

Our team will:

  • Verify your insurance benefits
  • Help obtain prior authorization if needed
  • Explain your medication costs and co-pay
  • Coordinate financial assistance programs when available
  • Schedule your first prescription delivery

Even if you've already started your medication, our specialty pharmacists and patient liaisons are available to answer questions and provide ongoing support.

Prescription Delivery, Supplies and Refills

Medication Delivery

Your medication is carefully packaged and delivered safely to your home or another approved location. We'll work with you to schedule a delivery that fits your needs.

Additional Supplies

Depending on your treatment, we can provide select supplies such as:

  • Syringes
  • Pill organizers
  • Other medication administration supplies

Refill Reminders

Missing doses can reduce the effectiveness of your treatment. Our team helps you stay on schedule by:

  • Contacting you before your medication runs out
  • Coordinating refill timing
  • Sending refill reminders by phone or text, when available

Specialty Pharmacy Patient Management Program

When we receive your specialty prescription, you'll automatically be enrolled in our Patient Management Program at no additional cost.

This program helps you receive ongoing support throughout your treatment.

Program Benefits

  • Personalized medication education
  • Guidance on proper medication use and side effect management
  • An individualized treatment plan to help prevent missed doses
  • Regular follow-up from our specialty pharmacy team
  • 24/7 access to a pharmacist or other specialty pharmacy staff

If you prefer not to participate, please call 805-242-7014 or email specialtypharmacy@sbch.org.

Co-Pay Assistance

Specialty medications can be expensive, even with insurance coverage.

Our team works directly with your insurance provider and helps identify available manufacturer or financial assistance programs. If you qualify, these programs may significantly reduce your out-of-pocket medication costs.
