Robotic-Assisted Urologic Surgery
When surgery is recommended, our experienced urologic surgeons use advanced robotic-assisted technology to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision, control, and visualization. Robotic surgery allows for smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, less postoperative discomfort, and faster recovery compared with traditional open surgery. Our robotic-assisted procedures include robotic radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, robotic partial nephrectomy for kidney tumors, and other advanced robotic urologic surgeries, with each procedure tailored to the patient’s condition and individual treatment goals.

Dr. Julie Chacko, MD
Dr. Julie Chacko is a board-certified urologist who has been providing comprehensive urologic care to patients in the Santa Barbara area since 2004. She is dedicated to the full spectrum of general urology and provides personalized care tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
She has particular expertise and clinical interests in the management of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), urinary stone disease, vasectomy, female urology, and pediatric urology. She provides both medical and surgical treatment for a broad range of urologic conditions and is committed to delivering thoughtful, evidence-based care.
Dr. Chacko earned her medical degree from the University of Southern California in 1998, graduating first in her class. She completed her urology residency at Stanford University Medical Center, where she received advanced training in the surgical specialty of urology.
She is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a member of the American Urological Association.
Dr. Pierre-Alain Hueber, MD, PHD
Dr. Pierre-Alain Hueber is a dual board-certified urologist who is fellowship-trained in urologic oncology and robotic surgery. His clinical expertise includes the treatment of prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers, as well as advanced minimally invasive and robotic-assisted urologic surgery. He also has expertise in minimally invasive treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), including robotic Aquablation.
He takes a personalized, evidence-based approach to care, combining the latest scientific advances and surgical technologies with a comprehensive understanding of each patient’s individual needs and preferences. His goal is to provide patients with the most appropriate treatment options while developing a care plan that aligns with their goals.
Dr. Hueber earned his medical degree and completed his urology residency at the University of Montreal in Canada. He subsequently completed a two-year fellowship in advanced robotic surgery and urologic oncology at the University of Southern California Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles. He also holds a PhD in Experimental Medicine from McGill University, where his research focused on developing novel targeted therapies for kidney cancer.
An active researcher, Dr. Hueber has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, as well as book chapters and editorials, and has presented his research at international conferences in Europe, North America, and South America. He is fluent in English and French and has working knowledge of German and Spanish.
Dr. David J. Laub, MD
Dr. David J. Laub is dedicated to providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art urologic care in a patient-friendly setting. With expertise in medical and surgical urology, minimally invasive procedures, and medication-based treatments, he provides personalized care for a broad range of urologic conditions.
He has extensive experience with minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery, including nephrectomy and prostatectomy, as well as da Vinci robotic-assisted prostatectomy. His training also provided him with early experience in the development of minimally invasive procedures for female urinary incontinence and some of the first laser and laparoscopic treatments for prostate disease in men.
Dr. Laub is committed to incorporating the latest safe and effective technologies into patient care. In the office, he utilizes advanced diagnostic tools, including prostate ultrasound and fiber-optic cystoscopy, to support accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment planning. His approach emphasizes high-quality medical and surgical care while considering each patient’s health, goals, and individual circumstances.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from UCLA and his medical degree from New York Medical College. He completed six years of surgical training in urology at Kaiser Permanente Foundation Hospital in Los Angeles and is certified by the American Board of Urology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Laub has participated in clinical research involving interstitial cystitis, prostate cancer markers, minimally invasive treatments for urinary incontinence, and testosterone supplementation.
Thomas Bosma PA-C
Thomas A. Bosma is a physician assistant specializing in urologic care and has been practicing in the Santa Barbara area for more than 14 years. He graduated with honors in 2006 and has developed extensive clinical experience providing care in a variety of healthcare settings.
With a particular focus on urology, Thomas has cared for patients across diverse clinical environments, including urgent care and rural healthcare settings. His broad experience allows him to provide thoughtful, patient-centered care for a wide range of urologic conditions, with an emphasis on personalized treatment and patient needs.
